SA’s best ice cream has been awarded

This homegrown hero has proven that classic flavours and local ingredients are a recipe for success.

Golden North has been named South Australia’s favourite ice cream, clinching the title in the delicious 100 list after a state-wide vote. This homegrown hero has proven that classic flavours and local ingredients are a recipe for success.

Located in the small town of Laura, Golden North has become synonymous with South Australian summers. Their honey ice cream, a nod to the region’s golden beaches, is a crowd-pleaser, especially when served up in a crunchy cone at Moana’s Deep Blue Café.

What sets Golden North apart is not just their creamy concoctions but their commitment to being nut-free and palm oil-free. They’ve kept it local and ethical, sourcing fresh milk and cream straight from Aussie farms, and most of their range is gluten-free too.

While Golden North leads the pack, other contenders also dished out some serious competition. Bottega Gelateria offered a taste of Italy with their authentic gelato, while 48 Flavours expanded the ice cream palette with adventurous flavors like pear, fig, and gorgonzola. Gelato Messina is set to bring its creative flair to Adelaide, and Ovo Gelato has been winning hearts in the city’s northeast with its artisanal approach.

These top spots reflect the state’s rich ice cream landscape, where innovation meets tradition. But for now, Golden North reigns supreme, showing that good old-fashioned ice cream, made with care and quality, never goes out of style.
