Get ready to cast your lines, as South Australia’s biggest carp fishing competition is making a splashy return this March!

The Carp Frenzy at Lake Bonney in Barmera is a mix of skill, luck, and a whole lot of carp-tastic fun.

For the uninitiated, the carp, a freshwater fish often considered a nuisance due to its invasive nature, becomes the star of this show. These fish have transformed Lake Bonney into an angler’s playground and the Carp Frenzy taps into this resource, turning a pest into the centrepiece of an event that brings the community together in a lighthearted contest.

The competition, which runs from 6:30am to 3:00pm, offers more than just bragging rights. With $5,000 in cash prizes and an additional bounty of $7,000-10,000 in assorted rewards, participants have ample motivation to cast their lines.

But Carp Frenzy is about more than just the catch. It’s an event where every participant, regardless of skill level, has a fair shot at winning something, making it a truly inclusive affair.

As the day progresses, the atmosphere at Lake Bonney shifts to something even more serious.

I’m talking about the Carp Tossing Championship. Here, participants show off their skills (or lack thereof) in hurling these slippery, scaly creatures. Trust me. You’ll want to be filming.

Entry fees are a small drop in the ocean: $25 for adults and $15 for children under 16. Every carp caught and each registration contributes to your chance to win. So, whether you’re a seasoned fisherman or just in it for the halibut, go on down and give it a try.

So whether you’re a serious angler looking to snag the big one, a family in search of a unique day out, or just someone curious about what carp tossing actually involves, Carp Frenzy at Lake Bonney is the place to be.
