SA’s defence industry on show at international maritime exhibition today

The state will be represented by an unprecedented delegation of over 80 local defence companies at the South Australia – The Defence State pavilion.

South Australia is set to make a splash on the global stage at the prestigious Indo Pacific 2023 maritime exhibition in Sydney, slated for 7-9 November. The state will be represented by an unprecedented delegation of over 80 local defence companies at the South Australia – The Defence State pavilion.

This record-breaking participation, the largest ever coordinated by Defence SA at any trade show, is a testament to the growing defence sector within the state. It’s a sector that is ready to demonstrate its prowess to an international audience.

At the helm of this showcase is Defence Industries Minister Susan Close, who will be in attendance to underscore South Australia’s pivotal contributions to AUKUS and other significant defence shipbuilding initiatives. The state is at the forefront of what is considered the most ambitious industrial project in Australia’s history—the nuclear-powered submarine program.

South Australia’s defence portfolio is impressive, with the state poised to deliver on a suite of key projects. These include the construction of the Arafura class offshore patrol vessels, the Hunter class frigates, the Collins class full-cycle docking and life-of-type extensions, and the Hobart class destroyer combat system upgrade.

The state’s legacy of successfully delivering some of the nation’s most complex Defence projects is only set to grow. The continuous naval shipbuilding enterprise not only fortifies national security but also opens up a wealth of opportunities for South Australian defence companies within both domestic and international supply chains.

Indo Pacific 2023 presents a golden opportunity for South Australian industry leaders to exhibit their advanced capabilities and cutting-edge technologies to a gathering of major partners and decision-makers from the international maritime and naval defence sectors.

Moreover, the state’s premier research and education institutions will be on hand to display their latest defence innovations and detail their efforts in cultivating a highly skilled naval shipbuilding workforce.

Attendees can visit the South Australia – The Defence State stand in Hall 3, Stand 3K6 at Indo Pacific 2023.
