Adelaide, get ready to turn up the heat. The Fire & Spice Festival is back for its fifth year, and it’s shaping up to be an absolute scorcher in the mouth!
On Sunday 6 April, Lockleys Oval will transform into a buzzing playground of flavour, fire and fun.
This year the South Australian Heat of the Australian Chilli Championship is making its fiery debut, and it’s not for the faint-hearted. Across 15 sweat-inducing rounds, contestants will battle it out by eating chillies and sauces that climb the heat scale fast.
We’re talking about the kind of spice that makes your eyes water just watching. It’s intense, it’s chaotic, and it’s ridiculously entertaining, whether you’re brave enough to compete or just there for the drama. Don’t worry, there’ll be milk on standby.
If you’ve been before, you already know it’s not just about the chilli. It’s about the energy, the music, the mouth-watering food and the chance to support some of the best local makers and creators in South Australia. And if this is your first time, your tastebuds are in for a wild ride.

The day is packed with entertainment, but the real spice-lovers will be lining up for this year’s chilli competitions.
Also on the line-up is the much-loved Peperoncino Competition, hosted by Radio Italiana. This one brings a more laid-back, garden-party feel to the chilli game, with prizes for the longest, best-looking and hottest peppers. It’s a crowd favourite, blending Italian pride with Aussie cheekiness and a bit of friendly neighbourhood rivalry.
While all that’s going on, the rest of the oval will be humming with food trucks dishing up everything from smoky barbecue to spicy street eats, and a few gentler options for those not quite ready to take on the chilli elite.
There’ll be cooking demos from local producers showing off South Aussie ingredients and clever kitchen tricks. So it’s not just about eating – you might even learn something too.

To keep the good vibes rolling, live music and roving performers will bring rhythm and colour, and there’ll be plenty of action for the kids to enjoy as well.
There’s a solid mix of market stalls too, which means you might end up heading home with more than just a full belly and a burning tongue.
Whether you’re the kind of person who puts chilli on everything or just love a lively community day out, Fire & Spice is bringing the heat in all the right ways.
Throw on a hat, gather your mates, and head to Lockleys Oval for a Sunday session like no other. It’s hot, it’s tasty, and it’s not to be missed.
