Radio presenter and journalist Andrew ‘Cosi’ Costello is trying to raise $34,000 to save SA’s iconic giant Santa.

Our giant Santa has been on display on the streets of Adelaide since the 1960s and as the biggest in the Southern Hemisphere, he really is an icon.

The 16-metre-tall Father Christmas statue was first installed in front of John Martin’s, now David Jones, in Rundle Mall and more recently he was relocated to the Central Market.

Unfortunately, he’s been in storage for nearly three years and is in need of some love and care (and money) to save him from the scrap heap.

Cosi has purchased Santa for $2 but is trying to raise the much needed profit to restore him to his former glory by throwing a boozy mid year party that you can buy tickets to!

He needs 300 people to buy a ticket to afford the repairs, so get you and your friends together and buy tickets to a Christmas party for a very good cause.

Tables of 10 are also available for purchase if you can get a group together of friends or colleagues.

The event will be happening on Friday the 15th of July from 7pm at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre, and will include a three course dinner showcasing SA produce, hours worth of SA wine and beers by Stonehaven, and a surprise visit from Santa.

Tickets are $190.99, but if you don’t want to buy a ticket but still want to help, they’ve set up a go fund me page for you to donate to.

And of course, all profits will go towards restoring Santa.

The South Aussie with Cosi “Christmas in July” party is on Friday 15th July at 7pm till late at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre, 98 Port Road, Hindmarsh.
