Save thousands of dollars on your electricity with this new $2.3 billion Federal Battery Program

Proud SA company leads the change, helping locals unlock serious savings thanks to the Federal Government’s new solar program.

“A solar battery could save you thousands, and might even take you off the grid.”

That’s the word from SunEnergy, a proud South Australian company ‘leading the change’ by helping locals unlock serious savings thanks to the Federal Government’s new $2.3 billion Cheaper Home Batteries Program.

So, what exactly does a home battery do?

Put simply, it lets you store the solar energy your panels produce during the day, instead of sending it back to the grid for just a few cents. That way, you can use your own power at night, when electricity rates are higher, and stop buying it back at full price.

“We’ve always believed in giving South Australian’s real control over their energy bills,” says SunEnergy Managing Director, Chantha Lake.

“This rebate opens the foor for thousands of families to install solar batter storage affordably and SunEnergy is ready to help them take full advantage.”

From July 1, eligible households will be able to recieve a government rebate of $372 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) of installed battery capacity, bringing the dream of energy independence into reality.

The rebate applies to systems up to 50kWh for households and 100kWh for small businesses or community facilities.

“All batteries must be CEC approved and installed by SAA-accredited installers to qualify for the rebate — both of which SunEnergy meets with every installation,” explains Chantha.

And with South Australia already leading the nation in solar, it’s the perfect time for locals to level up.

“Australia has the highest penetration of solar power in the world,” Chantha explains.

“But less than 7% of those homes actually have a battery. That means most people are giving away their excess power during the day and paying to buy it back at night. A battery stores your solar so you can use it when you actually need it.”

The savings are hard to ignore. Under the new rebate, a typical 15kWh home battery could qualify for a whopping $5,580 cashback, paid directly after activation.

“That’s real money back in the pockets of South Australian families,” Chantha says.

“It makes adding a battery smarter and more affordable than ever.”

But it’s not just households that benefit. By adding batteries, South Australians are also helping stabilise the state’s energy grid, something Chantha says is important now more than ever.

“More home batteries means less pressure on the grid, especially during peak demand. It’s a win-win — families save money and the whole community benefits from a more stable energy system,” she says.

“If the grid’s running low, those home batteries can send extra power back to prevent blackouts. So batteries aren’t just good for households, they’re good for all South Australians.”

With warnings of supply shortages, SunEnergy is encouraging families to act now to lock in their system and rebate. They’re even offering a special deal: install your battery before July 1 and get a cashback rebate once the program kicks in, no waiting required.

“We can’t afford to sit around waiting until July,” Chantha says.

“We’re installing batteries now, giving customers their rebate as a cashback after July 1st, and making sure no one misses out.”

According to Chantha, demand is going to outstrip supply. Prices will go up, and installers will be booked out. By acting now, customers can secure their battery and lock in their rebate.

With over a decade supporting South Australians in solar, SunEnergy is making it easier than ever to leverage the government benefits, handling the rebate process end-to-end and helping you save thousands.

In the face of rising energy prices and cost of living pressures, this rebate couldn’t have come at a better time. Whether you’re looking to add a battery to your existing solar system or install a brand-new solar and battery package, SunEnergy can offer both with no upfront cost for eligible customers.

They have secured limited battery stock and are already installing systems now to ensure families don’t miss out.
