Say bonjour to Adelaide’s newest Bastille festival, as a weekend of authentic French charm awaits

Adelaide will transform into a charming French playground this winter as Sydney’s Bastille Festival makes its debut at Festival Plaza.

A little slice of Paris is about to land right in the heart of Adelaide, as for the very first time, Sydney’s spectacular Bastille Festival is packing up its baguettes, brie, and Bordeaux reds and bringing its joie de vivre to Adelaide.

From May 30th to June 1st, Festival Plaza will be transformed into a petit Paris. The Bastille Festival Adelaide will be the perfect way to ring in winter, complete with mouth-watering food stalls, pop-up wine bars, artisan markets, art installations and a lively lineup of entertainment, all with that unmistakable French style.

After captivating over half a million attendees annually in Sydney, the Bastille Festival has been a highlight of the city’s cultural calendar. Now, Adelaide gets to host this prestigious event, with a weekend filled with the crème de la crème of French culture.

Vincent Hernandez, the Founder and Director of Bastille Festival, shared, “Bastille Festival debuting in Adelaide is no coincidence. People in Adelaide have a flair for the European lifestyle, a taste for fine wines and exquisite products, and a deep appreciation for the arts. This is the spirit of Bastille, and I couldn’t imagine a better place in Australia to bring this festival I love so much.”

Visitors can look forward to an engaging lineup of activities, including collaborations with some of Adelaide’s leading chefs and captivating street art displays. Festival highlights will include energetic cancan performances, epic dance parties, fire displays, DJs, circus acts, magicians and more. Plus, if you’re making the trip to Adelaide for the Festival or fancy a weekend staycation, hotels like the InterContinental Adelaide are just a 3-minute walk away.

The festival is a must-attend for foodies with more than 50 food stalls serving an array of traditional French and French fusion cuisines. Attendees can look forward to delights such as fresh raclette, sumptuous crepes, an array of melted cheeses, and exquisite patisseries.

Wine enthusiasts will be pleased to hear that over 32 varieties of boutique French wines will be available for tasting. These wines are sourced from France’s famous wine-producing regions, including Bordeaux, Burgundy, and Champagne.

An exciting addition to this year’s festival is the introduction of five bespoke French villages within Festival Plaza. Each village aims to recreate the unique atmosphere of French provinces, such as Bordeaux, Champagne, and Provence. This is the perfect way for festival-goers to tour through France’s rich cultural and gastronomic heritage, without ever having to leave Adelaide!

This time around, the festival has also introduced the concept of Food & Wine Passports. These passports will allow guests to take themselves on a self-guided culinary journey, sampling French wines and regional specialties. There are also ticketed experiences like the Crackling Fire Pit Experience, where guests can enjoy mulled wine and roasted marshmallows in the ultimate cosy setting.

As Adelaide prepares to don its French beret, make sure to mark your calendars for an unforgettable French festival experience right in the heart of the city.

And the best part? Entry is free! So whether you’re a seasoned Francophile, a lover of cheese, wine, and chansons, or just in the mood for a mini Euro escape without the jet lag, this is one event you won’t want to miss. Ooh la la!
