Scanlan & Theodore Autumn Winter 2012 Collection

Adelaide's newest (& most exciting) boutique has just released their look book for Autumn Winter 2012. And we're excited. We glimpsed a preview of what was on Scanlan & Theodore's racks during their Unley Road launch last month, and the upcoming designs have us flipping through our calendars, deciding on what events need which outfits.

For Autumn Winter 2012, fabrication is an important focus in Scanlan & Theodore’s latest collection. Flocking, sequins, fur, feathers, leather and laser cut fabrics are employed to highlight texture and allow for contemporary eclecticism.

For elegant eveningwear, fabrics are draped and ruched to flatter the silhouette. This is seen with key styles such as the simple wool-blend dress, the liquid black fourties-esque cocktail dress, and the floor-length red-carpet-worthy gown, which comes in the colours midnight blue and peacock green.

Cropped classic pants, skirts and tops are realized in structured shapes that are cut in both a wool blend and leather, affording the collection a striking sense of modernity. These work well when worn either together or as separates, working back with the more feminine shift tops and chiffon shirting that features appliqué and prints.

Animal print works it’s way subtly throughout the collection allowing for a tougher look. Printed snakeskin, leopard and feather graphics work well for the softer styles as well as the more structured shapes. The prints also complement the luxurious fur and feather outerwear, not to mention the accessories — fur clutches, belts and evening bags come into play this season.

Wool is featured in a variety of ways: a chunky boyfriend-sized knit that can be casually teamed with ladylike pencil skirts or the tough leather panelled leggings. There are also asymmetrical draped woollen styles, which are loose and luxurious.

Key colours are the aforementioned green and blue, along with earthier tones of taupe and slate and, of course, classic black and navy. The affect is striking, and the combination of tones, textures and prints are designed to be worn together, embodying a chic, yet bold sense of femininity.
