Whether it includes grand gestures like Romeo and Juliet or something a little more familiar, like the love between you and a perfect cup of coffee on a bleary Monday morning — everyone loves a good love story. And, boy, do we have one for you!
While you may have heard of Schild Estate in the Barossa, have you heard about the charming love story behind the winery?
The strong family focus that drives the winery can be traced back to Edgar Gordon Schild (better known as Ed), the youngest son of Ben and Alma Schild, who initially established the winery. Ed’s enthusiasm for the region saw him steadily grow the landholdings of the Schild family alongside his wife, Lorraine.
The two first met at a weekly social dance. Ed had noticed Lorraine the previous week dancing with someone else, so he decided to arrive early for the next social dance in order to get in first.
Not long after that initial success, the two started dating. Lorraine worked keeping house for the Hill Smith family in Angaston and had every second weekend off, so on these weekends, Ed would pick her up to come stay with him
You may be asking yourself why we chose now to tell you about Schild Estate’s history — well, Ed and Lorraine are celebrating their 57th Wedding Anniversary this month!
And, if you would like to celebrate with them, you can pick up one of their $40 Wedding Anniversary packs, including a bottle of Edgar Schild Reserve Old Bush Vine Grenache and Lorraine Schild Reserve Late Harvest Semillion, only for available for a limited time.
Find Schild Estate at 1095 Barossa Valley Way, Lyndoch 5351. The tasting room is open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 10am to 4pm (or by appointment).
