Science + Rock = Ologism!

When some of Australia’s best science communicators and an ARIA award-winning musician get together you had better believe that you will see something new.

Ologism is the collaborative effort of Marty Lubran (Crackpot, Inverto), Chris Krishna-Pillay (Pre-Coital, Somnium, Dante’s Laboratory) and Darren Vogrig (Jumpin’ Jack’s Back) to bring a new energy to the communication and celebration of science. Their show uses rock, punk, pop and soul to discuss science in a way nature probably didn’t intend.

“At its heart, Ologism is rock music inspired by science, which makes the show very different to what you would expect from either a standard rock show or science presentation for that matter”, said Chris Krishna-Pillay. “Science is surely as reasonable an inspiration for music as lost love, politics or Gangnam Style”, he added.

The show grew out of nearly 10 years of 'Great Big Science Gig', Australia's first and most successful science rock show, and the Ologism team has toured Australia many times with a constantly growing and evolving repertoire.

“Our shows are a little unusual. So far we have enjoyed air showers, looked for lost bees, revealed the cyber nose, fallen in love with spuds, been angry with ants, searched for the island of stability, and we are not done yet”, added Chris.

“We are proud to be able to host the Adelaide leg of the tour in our wonderful venue: The Science Exchange”, RiAus Programs Co-ordinator James Byrne said.

FasterLouder said: “Science is definitely cooler when it’s sung… combined slick professionalism with off-the-cuff humour and ad-libbed practical demonstrations…”
