Got a sweet tooth? Well, dear lovers of chocolate and all things sugary-sweet, listen up: World Chocolate Day is upon us Friday 7 July, and Melba’s Chocolates is celebrating with free hot chocolates from their cafe for all who visit their factory in Woodside.
Situated in the Adelaide Hills, the hot chocolates are lusciously creamy and made with Melba’s liquid chocolate, smooth and warming to keep you feeling cozy while you wander through and explore the five main factory rooms in which Melba’s team prepare all their delectable sweet treats.
Events and Marketing Manager Becks Lozo confirms, “To the side of the factory, we have our cafe with pouring chocolate on tap.”
“We can make you a milk, dark or white hot chocolate, which we’ll be giving away free for the day.”
“You can even add a flavour such as coconut or hazelnut, strawberry or caramel – you name it.”
“We’ve got so many flavours you can add, or you can have it classic, it’s on us!”
There’s never been a better reason to take a trip to visit Melba’s Chocolate Factory than World Chocolate Day. Entry to the factory is as free as the liquid-velvet hot chocolates you can indulge in. Plus, visitors will get to see Melba’s historic chocolate wheel in action.
“We bring out the Chocolate Wheel for special occasions like World Chocolate day and Easter,” says Lozo.
“It’s quite old machinery; it was built in 1993, but the machinery was produced a few years before that. It was previously used for the depositing all our chocolate, and especially to make our famous chocolate Bilbies.”
The Chocolate Bilby, now an Aussie Easter classic, shares its history with Melba’s. In 1993, then-8 year old school girl Rebecca Hart and her classmates sent in a petition to Melba’s to bring awareness to the endangered species, and soon enough Melba’s was producing the treat that became a sweet staple in Australia every year.
“While three chocolate bilbies came to market around the same time, Melba’s was the first,” says Lozo.
Melba’s has resided in the transformed Woodside Farmers Union Factory site since 1990, boasting accessibility parking, ramps, and entryways as listed in detail on their website to ensure all visitors can enjoy the sugary goodness.
While Melba’s is home to iconic SA treats such as Traffic Lights, Inch Liquorice and an array of old-Australian sweets, if you’re not sure where to start your tasting journey, Lozo recommends purchasing Melba’s Milk Chocolate with Hazelnut to pair with your free hot chocolate.
“But I’ll definitely be treating myself to some of our chocolate raspberries this World Chocolate Day!
You can get your sweet tooth fix by dropping in between 9am to 4:30pm this Friday 7 July, and be treated to your free World Chocolate Day hot chocolate.
