Scrub fire continues to burn in the Mount Remarkable National Park

A scrub fire is currently burning in the Alligator Gorge area of Mount Remarkable National Park in the Flinders Ranges.

A scrub fire is continuing to burn in the Alligator Gorge area of Mount Remarkable National Park in the Flinders Ranges, with approximately 100 CFS and Department for Environment and Water firefighters working to manage the situation. The firefighting effort is supported by around 23 trucks, 10 Farm Fire Units, heavy machinery, and 10 aircraft, including firebombers and observational aircraft

Due to the steep terrain and limited safe access for firefighters, the fire remains uncontained and is expected to continue burning for the remainder of the week, if not longer. The fire has spread to 2185 hectares, mainly within the national park, with only small areas extending into the northern boundaries.

Firefighters are closely monitoring the weather conditions and may conduct controlled burns to help prevent further spread. As these activities take place, residents may notice increased smoke and embers in the area.

Mount Remarkable National Park will remain closed until further notice, and emergency services may be operating on nearby roads. Motorists are advised to avoid the area, but if travel is necessary, please exercise caution and drive to the conditions.

While there is currently no risk to local communities, it’s important for everyone in the area to stay informed as the situation may change. Smoke impacts may increase over the coming days, so residents should take precautions for their health. Drivers should slow down and adjust to smoke conditions on the roads.
