South Australia’s most stylist racegoers will this year compete for a luxury racing holiday to Asia and look to a new ambassador, Channel Seven weather presenter Amelia Mulcahy, for trackside trends.

The 2015/16 Fashion at The Races season will get underway at the Mt Gambier Gold Cup on Friday, where the first of sixteen finalists will be selected to compete in the State Final at Morphettville in May, 2016.

This year marks a series of exciting changes for the competition. A new major prize is up for grabs – a 10-day tour of Hong Kong, Shanghai and Macau, which includes sightseeing and shopping tours, accommodation and return Cathay Pacific business class flights for two. A private box at the Sha Tin racecourse during the world-famous Hong Kong International is the icing on the cake.

Adelaide fashion emporium BNKR has also joined as a sponsor, a fast-growing company Thoroughbred Racing SA Marketing Manager Michelle Greene said is a perfect fit for the annual, state-wide style search which runs across 26 race meets.

BNKR stocks renowned Australian labels such as C/MEO COLLECTIVE, Finders Keepers, Keepsake and The Fifth, and prides itself on offering versatile pieces that create an effortless, yet elegant and confident wardrobe.

“We’re delighted to have BNKR on board and believe it’s the perfect match for the Fashion at The Races competition,” Mrs Greene said.

“The judges this season look forward to seeing contestants take inspiration from the company’s on-trend off-the-rack creations to craft stylish, modern outfits. From edgy, yet race appropriate attire, to outfits that encompass timeless elegance, we expect individual personalities to shine through.”

The runner-up of the 2015/16 competition will win an extravagant shopping experience with BNKR, including $2000 to spend on clothes and a private styling session.

Style-savvy Amelia Mulcahy embraces all elements of racing fashion and is passionate about the industry. She has previously hosted David Jones fashion parades and events at the Adelaide Fashion Festival and is excited to add the 2015/16 Fashion at The Races ambassador role to her already impressive resume.

“I’m honoured to be chosen as the next Fashion at the Races ambassador, and can’t wait to see how South Australian women show off their unique style,” Amelia said.

“I love a sleek, classic look, but I also think a bold splash of colour can make an outfit a winner”

“A day at the races gives you the opportunity to have fun with accessories like hats and gloves, and I can’t wait to see the looks contestants will create.”

Amelia will make appearances at the Mt Gambier Gold Cup, followed by the Gawler Cup, the Balaklava Cup and the Melbourne Cup at Morphettville.

In addition to taking home the individual prizes provided by each club, all regional winners will be treated to two nights’ accommodation at Oaks Plaza Pier Glenelg and hospitality for two at Schweppes Oaks Day in May 2016.

Entrants to Fashion at The Races must be 18 or over and are judged on originality and confidence, appropriateness of the outfit for the particular event, attention to detail with accessories, the ability to embrace current fashion trends, grooming and deportment.
