Changes to consumption restrictions as SA remains on high alert

The Premier spoke at a press conference today as well as Police Commissioner Grant Stevens and SA Health’s Dr Emily Kirkpatrick to update on today’s Transition Committee meeting.

Premier Steven Marshall spoke today about his concern regarding the Delta variant in other states with contact tracers currently working tirelessly in Queensland to track the two new cases that were announced today.

The announcement followed a meeting of South Australia’s Transition Committee today, where due to the constantly evolving nature of the Delta variant currently in VIC, NSW and QLD no changes were announced to South Australia’s border arrangements with other states.

Marshall did confirm that standing consumption was now permitted at a private function where there is a density agreement of 1 person per 2 square metres, and caps on numbers allowed at private home gatherings in South Australia had been lifted from 10 people to 20.

A new, minor change for hospitality venues that is due to come into effect this afternoon, allows the seated consumption of drinks when seated on stools around a bar, where previously venues could only serve patrons seated at a table separate to the bar.

The Premier also spoke regarding the consideration of essential workers who are currently coming in from Level 6 jurisdictions in areas with high technical skills which often require these individuals to work during their 14 day quarantine period.

The Premier spoke to confirm that these individuals were being considered as being required to have at least one vaccination dose in order to allow this, with conversations with the industry on this requirement still underway.

SA Health’s Dr Emily Kirkpatrick raised concerns about the Broken Hill area, who are currently undertaking waste water test results after a case was detected in the border community.

Conversations are currently underway with the AFL to ensure as many people as possible can safely watch this Friday’s AFL final.

Today’s press conference follows the news yesterday that South Australia is due to begin the nation’s first home quarantine trial this week, using a brand new home quarantine app to monitor the home quarantine of 50 South Australians returning from interstate.

Using innovative technology, the app provides geolocation and live face-recognition to ensure that people are compliant with their home quarantine direction, and ensures they are at their approved home quarantine address.

ALL SOUTH AUSTRALIANS WHO HAVE SYMPTOMS OF COVID-19 SHOULD GET TESTED ON THE DAY SYMPTOMS APPEAR.

Symptoms include:

– Fever or chills (in the absence of an alternative illness that explains these symptoms)
– An acute respiratory infection e.g. cough, sore throat, runny nose, or shortness of breath
– Loss of smell or alteration in the sense of taste
– Diarrhoea and vomiting
