Spoiler alert: We have the scoop on a secret bar opening soon in the Adelaide’s CBD!
New secret bar The Cloakroom will be a basement bar underneath Remy’s Deep Dish Pizza on No Fixed Address Lane (formerly Lindes Lane) off Rundle Mall. The bar is aptly named because to enter into the The Cloakroom, you have to walk through a Narnia-style wardrobe. You will then be led down three short flights of stairs before finally arriving in your destination.
The spot’s hidden entrance pays homage to the Barlow Room, the secret bar through a fireplace door which formerly resided in the Cloakroom’s future space. The bar will be speakeasy-style and have a focus on the lighting so that it will feel like a new world as you walk through the wardrobe.
Owner Josh Rivers, who also owns Remy’s, says the spot will have “big party vibes” with DJs and lots of dancing. There will be “Step-Up” nights for those who want to dance off, house nights for synth junkies, and more themed nights.
“It’s a capacity of 50 people, and it’s a room the same size as Remy’s, so it’s gonna be a hectic little club – I hope,” Rivers tells us.
The Cloakroom also aims to be an LGBTQIA+ safe space, with the hidden entrance a nod to those who have actually lived in the closet.
“People can come and there’s no judgement; I want all communities to come together and enjoy themselves,” Josh says.
The bar is set to open in summer 2021, and we’re already excited to grab some deep dish pizza and head down for a drink.
