There is a mammoth mushroom on display at the Adelaide Central Markets that needs to be seen to be believed.
Iconic funghi emporium Mushroom Mans, who this year are celebrating their 20th year of operation within the Adelaide Central Markets, have the 2.1kg prized porcini in pride of place at stall 68.
Behind every Mushroom Man (owner Marco Marinelli) is a Mushroom Woman, with co-owner Rebecca Marinelli proudly cradling the massive mushroom in a photo posted by the Adelaide Central Markets this week.
The ‘baby’ porcini measures roughly 30cm across and surprisingly is actually not the largest porcini that Mushroom Man have grown, recording a gargantuan 3.5kg mushroom last year.
Although funghi fans might be disappointed to know the supersized vegetable is not available for purchase, there’s no better time to visit Mushroom Mans with the abundance of delicious fresh porcini coming out of the Adelaide Hills, ranging in size from 30g to 500g. Early June also marks the commencement of wild mushroom season and the first week of incredibly flavoursome Australian truffles coming through into store.
Sourcing your mushrooms from seasoned experts like Mushroom Man is definitely the wise (and tasty) choice, with the Department for Health and Wellbeing issuing a warning to the public for the wetter seasons not to pick and eat mushrooms they see in the wild.
