Semaphore Steam Train returns just in time for school holidays

Celebrating over 30 years of operation, this beloved attraction is operated by the dedicated volunteers from the National Railway Museum.

Toot toot. It’s back!

The iconic Semaphore Train is back on track, just in time for the school holidays! After a winter hiatus for some TLC on the steam engine and carriages, the vibrant green steam engine, and its cheerful yellow carriages are set to chug along the scenic Semaphore beach once again.

Celebrating over 30 years of operation, this beloved attraction is operated by the dedicated volunteers from the National Railway Museum. Departing from the Semaphore Jetty approximately every 45 minutes from 11am, the train offers a 30-minute round trip to Fort Glanville.

And guess what? It’s an absolute steal for families looking for some fun!

Executive Officer Bob Sampson said: “Each return trip to Fort Glanville takes about 30 minutes and is great family value for money!”

“About 20,000 people ride on the Semaphore train each summer season, with the 2km long railway line maintained by the City of Port Adelaide Enfield and the City of Charles Sturt” he added.

Post the September/October school holidays, the train will grace the tracks every Sunday, and then daily from 26 December, right through to the end of the January school holidays.

The train journey offers a picturesque view, departing from the end of the bustling Semaphore Road café strip. As you ride, you’ll be flanked by the Esplanade and the golden dunes of Semaphore, one of Adelaide’s top beaches. The journey culminates near the historic Fort Glanville at Point Malcolm, a treat for history buffs!
