A giant blue swimmer crab has landed in Semaphore, and it’s already shaping up to be one of the coast’s most eye-catching new play spaces.
The newly opened Semaphore playground has officially welcomed kids in for play, with a bold, locally built sea life design that turns a visit to the foreshore into a mini ocean adventure.
At the centre of the space is the enormous blue swimmer crab structure, complete with slides, climbing nets and more than 15 different play elements designed to encourage kids to climb, crawl, swing, explore and discover.
The design is made for inclusive play for everyone, with an all-access trampoline, carousel and new liberty swing that lets children of all abilities play side by side.

From the moment families arrive, the playground leans into its coastal setting.
Young adventurers can make their way through a cave net, stretch out on the hammock, race down the tube slide, peek through bubble windows, scribble on the chalk board or test out the slime door.
Around the space, hidden sea life details bring the design to life, with turtles and pippis tucked into the seaweed-inspired landscape for kids to spot as they play.
Beyond the play area, the outside features two all-access picnic spots and BBQs, making it the perfect spot for a birthday or picnic.

The playground replaced an old area, that was outdated and had reached the end of its useful and safe lifespan.
Construction for the playground began earlier in the year with the existing shade and fence still in tact.
With its playful sea life design, inclusive features and easy picnic setup, it’s set to become a popular new stop for families along the coast.
