SES urges South Australians to brace for more severe weather

The State Emergency Service (SES) is warning South Australians to be prepared for another severe weather this weekend.

The State Emergency Service (SES) is warning South Australians to be prepared for another severe weather this weekend.

The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting a very windy and wet few days across the state with widespread showers, thunderstorms, localised heavy rainfall and flooding, damaging winds and storm surge in some parts of the State. This is due to multiple fronts crossing the south of the State, the strongest of them expected during Saturday evening.

SES Chief of Staff Graeme Wynwood is urging South Australians to prepare ahead of the forecast conditions to keep themselves and their properties safe.

“Keeping gutters and downpipes free of leaf litter and other rubbish will also reduce the risk of water damage to your home and business.”

“Securing and putting away loose items, such as trampolines and outdoor furniture, is one step you can take to prevent them from becoming airborne and causing damage to your property or your neighbour’s property,” Mr Wynwood said.

Mr Wynwood also reminds South Australians of the danger from flying debris, falling trees and downed powerlines. Always assume fallen powerlines are live – they should be reported to SA Power Networks on 13 13 66.

“Never drive through floodwaters and make sure children don’t play in or near fast-flowing water.”

The SES is urging people to listen to local radio stations and monitor the SES website and social media channels for information, updates and advice.

Residents needing assistance from the SES during storms and floods should call 132 500. When calling for assistance, please let the operator know if you are in COVID quarantine or isolation. Please help us keep our volunteers safe by wearing a mask and maintaining social distancing if you need to talk to them in the field. If the matter is life-threatening, call Triple Zero (000).
