The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe thunderstorm warning, alerting residents of potential damaging winds in parts of Mid North, Riverland, and North East Pastoral districts. The warning, released at 2:43pm on Saturday, 7 June 2025, predicts the possible occurrence of damaging wind gusts associated with thunderstorms in these regions.
This alert follows an earlier severe weather warning issued at 10:35am today, which included a broader area including Adelaide Metropolitan, Mount Lofty Ranges, Mid North, Kangaroo Island, Lower South East and parts of Lower Eyre Peninsula, Yorke Peninsula, Flinders, Murraylands, Upper South East, Riverland and North East Pastoral districts. The primary concern is strong winds sweeping across these areas, propelled by a complex low-pressure system over the Southern Ocean and a robust cold front impacting South Australia.
Residents in Clare and Burra are advised to be prepared as these locations are expected to be affected. The thunderstorms developing inland due to this dynamic weather system could lead to severe conditions over the next several hours.

Earlier today, coastal and elevated areas had already received alerts for potential strong to damaging winds. Coastal regions, including the Adelaide Metro Area and parts of southern Fleurieu Peninsula, were warned of damaging winds averaging 65 to 75 km/h with peak gusts surpassing 90 km/h. The conditions were expected to be more severe with showers and thunderstorms from late morning.
In elevated areas, such as the Mount Lofty Ranges and Flinders Ranges, the weather service forecasted strong winds with average speeds of 55 to 65 km/h and gusts potentially exceeding 100 km/h from late morning as well. A significant 93 km/h wind gust was already recorded at Cape Borda at 9:22am.
Although the winds are anticipated to drop below warning thresholds for most regions by Saturday evening, the Bureau cautioned that exposed coastal areas might continue to experience damaging wind gusts late into the night.
The State Emergency Service has advised the public to take several precautionary measures to mitigate the impact of these severe conditions:
– Move vehicles to locations that provide cover or at a distance from trees.
– Secure or properly store any loose items around your property to prevent them from being blown away or causing damage.
– Remain indoors and avoid proximity to windows when the weather conditions are at their most severe.
