Severe weather rages on for SA following code blue activation

Severe weather including damaging winds and heavy rainfall has triggered a Code Blue response across the regions.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Severe Weather Warning for damaging winds for southern parts of South Australia.

The warning could impact Adelaide, Mount Barker, Port Lincoln, Kingscote, Whyalla, Port Pirie, Clare, Mount Gambier, Keith, Murray Bridge and Renmark.

Damaging gusts stronger than 90 km/h will be more likely and more frequent across the south of the warning area and particularly associated with squally showers and thunderstorms. Showers and thunderstorms will also produce short bursts of heavy rainfall in these areas.

This warning comes following Wednesday’s weather warning that triggered a code blue. During a Code Blue activation, Housing SA, together with its non-government partners, makes additional accommodation and support services available for extended hours for people sleeping rough.

From 14 July, the extreme weather response is being activated in Mt Gambier, Victor Harbor, Pt Lincoln, Clare and Kingscote until Monday 19 July.

In Adelaide, an extreme weather response was activated from Thursday 15 July until Monday.

“Due to forecast severe weather across much of the state, a Code Blue is being activated in many regions and Adelaide ensuring extra services and accommodation is available for our most vulnerable South Australians,” said Minister Lensink.

“We’re really urging anyone who is homeless or at risk of homelessness to contact services or call the 24/7 hotline Homeless Connect SA on 1800 003 308 if they need support.

“Thanks to the homelessness services working tirelessly at the coalface supporting our most vulnerable during this week’s extreme winter weather.”

Extra services open for people sleeping rough include:
