Severe weather warning issued for South Australia

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Severe Weather Warning for South Australians in Adelaide Metropolitan, Mount Lofty Ranges, Lower Eyre Peninsula, Yorke Peninsula, Mid North, Kangaroo Island, Upper South East, Lower South East and parts of West Coast, Eastern Eyre Peninsula, Flinders, Riverland, Murraylands and North East Pastoral districts.

Damaging winds are developing through Friday afternoon and evening.

Weather Situation: Vigorous northwesterly flow will develop over southeast South Australia during Friday, shifting west to southwesterly with the passage of a strong cold front Friday night.

DAMAGING WINDS, averaging 55 to 65 km/h with peak gusts of 90 to 100 km/h are likely over the Eyre Peninsula and Kangaroo Island during Friday afternoon, extending east across the warning area during the evening.

DAMAGING WINDS will likely persist and may extend further east into the Murraylands and Riverland districts during Saturday.

Locations which may be affected include Adelaide, Port Lincoln, Mount Gambier, Murray Bridge, Kingscote and Naracoorte.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Move vehicles under cover or away from trees;
* Secure or put away loose items around your property.
* Stay indoors, away from windows, while conditions are severe.

The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 11:00 pm ACST Thursday.
