Weather warning continues as Adelaide gets devastated by damaging winds and heavy rainfall last night

A severe weather warning was issued at 6:46am on Monday 30 May 2022. A cold front is moving across SA in coming days, with damaging winds and heavy rainfall.

A powerful cold front and damaging winds are impacting multiple parts of Australia today. The cold front will be moving across multiple regions over coming days.

Damaging winds, abnormally high tides, and a drop in temperatures will be felt in areas of Western Australia, South Australia, Victoria, Tasmania, NSW, the ACT, and Queensland.

For SA, a severe weather warning has been issued in the following locations for damaging winds and heavy rainfall: Adelaide Metropolitan, West Coast, Lower Eyre Peninsula, Eastern Eyre Peninsula, Yorke Peninsula, Flinders, Mid North, Riverland and parts of Mount Lofty Ranges, Murraylands, North West Pastoral and North East Pastoral districts.

The severe weather warning was issued at 6:46am on Monday 30 May 2022.

Possible damaging winds will average at 70 km/h with peak gusts in excess of 90 km/h. Predicted to ease later today.

Heavy rainfall, which may lead to flash flooding, is forecasted this morning, easing during the afternoon. Six-hourly rainfall totals between 40 – 50mm mm are likely. Specific locations which may be affected include Adelaide, Port Lincoln, Whyalla, Renmark, Ceduna and Leigh Creek.

Weather over the weekend

A swimming enclosure (pictured) at Wallaroo has been destroyed, and local Joshua Gill, amongst others, has called for an original “Jetty Style” enclosure to be constructed that can sustain harsh winds and swell.

Wind and rain stats:

  • Between 5:45 and 5:50PM on Sunday, winds gusted to 96 km/h at Thevenard.
  • Banksia Park recorded 30.2mm in 1 hr to 5:45am.
  • Golden Grove recorded 30.2mm in 1 hr to 6:15am.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:

  • Move vehicles under cover or away from trees;
  • Secure or put away loose items around your property.
  • Don’t drive, ride or walk through flood water;
  • Keep clear of creeks and storm drains;
  • Stay indoors, away from windows, while conditions are severe.
