You may have noticed the legions of early-risers convening at Henley each week for a wintery morning dip, often closely followed by a flurry of social media posts depicting huddles of goose-bump covered swimmers.
Each Wednesday come rain or shine, Salty Sips encourages every man and his dog (literally, its a pooch-friendly event) to meet at sunrise for a bracing ocean dip, washed down with a warming sip of coffee, with local eateries Joe’s, SeaSalt and Acacia now catering to the growing community, that reached a staggering 450 participants at their last meet-up.
Founders Nikita Trewartha and Lily Biggs met five months ago, bonding over a mutual love of Adelaide’s heavenly sunrises and tranquil beaches.
Inspired by a similar group in Perth, Cold Nips, Nikita and Lily saw an opportunity for Adelaideans to shake up their week and get out of their comfort zone, beginning Salty Sips Adelaide, an all-inclusive, connection-driven initiative for early-risers to appreciate the state’s coastal beauty and meet like-minded ocean-lovers.
The Salty Sips community has grown exponentially since their first foray into the water back in February, now offering a pre-dip Yoga flow led by Ciara Foley that attracts up to 150 yogis and beginners each week.
Duo Lily and Nikita are keen for their invigorating morning dips to nudge people out of their comfort zones and monotonous morning routines, breaking up the week with appearances from guest speakers such as Jack Shephard from 21 Run Club, who spoke to participants about the stigma surrounding mental health.
The lightning-fast growth isn’t stopping there for the Salty Sips team who are in the process of launching merchandise, partnering with an incredible charity and announcing five new locations in SA, QLD and NT this week.
