There’s something about a country show that never gets old — the smell of farm animals, delicious food, the sound of laughter, and the feeling that the whole community has turned up to celebrate.
The Uraidla & Summertown Show, held on Sunday 2 November, captures that magic perfectly, bringing colour, noise and country cheer to the Adelaide Hills each year.
“It’s full of exciting things and creative displays,” says Chelsea, one of the show committee organisers.
“Everywhere you look there’s something happening. It’s loud, it’s colourful and there’s always music playing.”
The event runs from 9am right through to 9:30pm, giving families, locals and visitors plenty of time to take it all in.
The day’s program has something for everyone. From the Summertown Tennis Club’s dunk tank and sheepdog trials, to the Oakbank Area School’s farmyard display, complete with pigs, cows, and goats.
“Some very funny-looking very cute fluffy sheep,” Chelsea laughs.

There’s a rock climbing wall, strongman and strongwoman demonstrations, wood chopping, art and craft competitions, and food trucks serving up everything from pizza and pasta to yiros and sweet treats.
“The food will be wonderful with vegan options, Greek, pizza, traditional show food, the amazing Four Seed’s brownies, and a great mix traditional show favourites again this year,” she says.
For the grown-ups, there’s no shortage of reasons to stay awhile.
“All the wineries featured are located within five kilometres of the show,” Chelsea says.
“You can grab a glass of local wine and listen to live music all afternoon.”
And when the sun dips behind the Hills, that’s when the real party starts.
“From about four o’clock the bonfire gets going, the main stage cranks up, and everyone’s dancing,” Chelsea says. “That’s my favourite part of the whole day.”

Organising it all takes months of work from a small but passionate crew.
“We work on this 365 days a year,” she says.
“It’s not easy to find volunteers, so it’s great to see younger people getting involved and keeping it going.”
With free parking, shuttle buses, and kids under 12 free, it’s an easy day out for families.
“We just want everyone to come up and have fun,” Chelsea says.
“It’s a community day, and there’s something here for everyone.”
Please note: The show accepts cash and it is a good backup as the country internet is slow and plays up on the day.
