Shibui Dessert Bar pops up in Rundle Mall

If you missed Shibui pop-ups at the Fringe or Tasting Australia, you now have a third chance to try the sweet eats in Rundle Mall.

Mochi donuts, anyone?

Get your sweet tooth ready: Shibui Dessert Bar is in Rundle Mall for a limited time only.

Serving up sugary treats from their bubble gum pink shipping container, Shibui is bringing their sweet eats to Gawler Place from July 16 to August 15. If you missed them at the Fringe or Tasting Australia, you now have a third chance to try them!

While the brick-and-mortar Grote Street location has everything from cheesecake to creme brûlée to crazy candy and ice cream combinations, the pop-up will have a limited (but still mouth-watering) selection of eats. The bright pink container will have mochi donuts, flavourful soft serves, and mochi donut sundaes.

They will also have toppings such as toasted marshmallow, a mochi donut on a picky stick, fairy floss, caramel popcorn, and stroopwafel, which can be added to any soft serve product.

Shibui comes from owners Quang Nguyen, Lisa Chao, and Thy Nguyen. After first appearing on our radar with Richmond’s Devour cafe and patisserie, Quang and Thy’s Shibui has been open and serving loyal customers since 2018. Thy says if you haven’t already tried the mochi donuts, they’re a must.

“Our mochi donuts are also so so so delicious; They’re nothing like a normal donut,” Thy says.

“They are crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside, and when drizzled with condensed milk and topped with powdered sugar, it’s for sure a crowd pleaser.”

The co-owner tells us Shibui is known for their unique range of desserts, which all have a poignance to them.

“The draw to our offerings is that we take nostalgic childhood memories and have turned them into desserts. For example, our raspberry candy are made with the Allen’s lollies themselves,” he says.

If you haven’t yet tried out the brick-and-mortar spot, make sure to check it out or venture to Rundle Mall to test the pop-ups exciting selection. They’re excited for the limited-time location.

“We are super excited to have the opportunity to bring our soft serves and mochi donuts to Rundle Mall,” Thy tells us.

“The Rundle mall team have been fantastic to work with.”
