Shiraz Stomp at Bird in Hand

grapesThe 2010 vintage season is truly underway at the Bird in Hand Winery in Woodside.

The winery is ecstatic with their recent “Top in Category” win for their 2008 Bird in Hand Shiraz and the Shiraz’s 5 stars, awarded by Winestate Magazine.

This Sunday the 28th March the winery is getting the public involved, and has invited people to join in with the crushing of the Shiraz Grapes between 12 – 4pm.

This is an occasion for bare feet and laughter, involving competitions throughout the day to measure the most amount of grape juice produced. The team that boasts superior Shiraz stomping skills will take home a 3 litre Magnum of 2007 Nest Egg Shiraz wine valued at over $500.

There will also be special tastings of the 2005 Bird in Hand Shiraz which won Winestate Magazine’s Shiraz of the Year, Wine of The Year, and World’s Greatest Shiraz.

Bird in Hand winemakers will be close by to coach everyone through and also assist any of the junior ‘stompers’. This is a fun opportunity to get involved – just make sure you wear old clothes!

The winery will be offering fabulous food options from $12.

The menu is set to include, chermoula prawn skewers on couscous, Salt Bush lamb sausages with kipfler potato salad, Greek salad with marinated Persian feta and Bird in Hand olives and for the children there will be chicken skewers and ice-cream priced from $3.

Resident deejay Madness will play from the Terrace throughout the afternoon.
