The musical scene in Australia is positively thriving right now. Cursed Child is in the midst of its hugely successful run, Hamilton also on its way, Book of Mormon is about to hit Adelaide and now another huge title is coming… Shrek The Musical!
The Oscar winning DreamWorks production has transformed from a popular film to something of a cult sensation so in 2008 when news that a musical version was to be produced, it was the ultimate outcome for fans.
The hugely popular production has announced plans to head down under in early 2020.
According to the musical’s Australian website, the musical follows hero Shrek and “his loyal steed Donkey as they set off on a quest to rescue the beautiful Princess Fiona from her tower, guarded by a fire breathing love-sick dragon.”
Featuring a “vertically challenged Lord Farquaad, a gang of fairytale misfits, and a biscuit with attitude.”
The ONLY catch is that their run starts in Sydney, then moves to Melbourne and Brisbane, (somehow, Adelaide has been omitted from the itinerary). It might be worth having an East coast trip on your mind.
