For the first time in it’s 22-year history, an SA wine has won Best Wine of Show at the International Cool Climate Wine Show.
The Adelaide Hills is known for its iconic cool climate wines and Sidewood Estate has once again proven to be one of the best producers in the region after taking out BEST WINE IN SHOW for the 2015 Chloe Cuvée.
This is not only the first Sparkling wine but the first South Australian wine to take out the top honour. The International Cool Climate Wine Show is internationally recognised as Australia and the Southern Hemisphere’s foremost show for exceptional cool climate wines.

It has been staged since 2000 and continues to grow in popularity every year. The ICCWS attracts entries from the cool climate regions of Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia, New South Wales, Tasmania, New Zealand, France, Italy, the USA, Germany, Austria, the UK and others.
Sidewood is delighted with this accolade. Owner and Vigneron, Owen Inglis commented saying “Of course we are delighted with this major award from the ICCW. The Chloe Cuvée being the very first Sparkling to take the top award in a competition dominated by Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, shows the maturity and development that Australian sparklings and in particular Adelaide Hills and Sidewood’s Traditional Method cool climate wines have reached.
“We first released the Chloe in 2011 with three years on Tirage and with time and patience we are now releasing the wine with five years on lees which is allowing the true potential of our Adelaide Hills fruit to shine, intertwined with the complexity that only terroir, winemaking and patience can achieve.
“The Trophy at the ICCWS follows hotly on the heels of our 2015 Isabella Rosé Sparkling, also with five years on lees, winning a Gold medal and Best in Class for Sparkling Rosé at the National Wine Show in Canberra last May and a highly coveted Platinum medal from the Decanter World Wine Awards in London, the only Sparkling Rosé to win a Platinum from any region worldwide including Champagne.

“The sub $40 Adelaide Hills wine took on the goliaths of Champagne and beat $400 wines convincingly.”
Sourced from hand harvested Pinot Noir (40%) and Chardonnay (60%) gently pressed free run juice was fermented in tank, with full malolactic fermentation. Secondary ferment via Methodé Traditionellé in bottle for a minimum of 60 months before being hand riddled and disgorged.
This wine has wonderful toasty brioche aromas enhanced by green fruits and zesty citrus. The palate has a harmonious balance of orange blossom, biscotti and green apple that compliment the slaty driving minerality, balanced perfectly with an elegant creamy finish.
