An Adelaide Hills, family-owned winery is continuing to make a name for itself on the international stage after taking out an award at London’s International Wine Challenge yesterday.

Sidewood Estate has been awarded a Trophy for its 2020 Pinot Noir; A first for South Australian Pinot and an incredible achievement for the Adelaide Hills Wine Region and Sidewood.

Sidewood Owner and Vigneron, Owen Inglis is thrilled with the win saying “We are delighted to have won a Trophy for our 2020 Estate Pinot Noir at London’s International Wine Challenge this week.

“One of the most important shows on the International circuit, the competition is seriously tough and to be recognised at the most rigorous and impartial wine competition in the world is amazing.

“Our Pinot had to get past 8 judges and then 2 Co-Chairs before being tapped on the shoulder.

“While Tasmania has nabbed a fistful of IWC Trophies and Mornington picked one up in 2015, this is a first for an Adelaide Hills Pinot and Sidewood is thrilled that we have been able to champion the region and show that the Hills can proudly stand alongside the best Pinot Noir producers in the world”

The International Wine Challenge is highly regarded as one of top honours on the international wine circuit with a strict judging process that involves each judge blind-tasting to ensure there are no favours paid in terms of region, style or vintage. Each wine is tasted on a minimum of three occasions by no less than eight separate judges.

Sidewood Estate’s 2020 Pinot Noir has also won Winestate Pinot Noir of the Year and a Trophy at the 2021 Adelaide Hills Wine Show in December and while the 2020 vintage is sold out (sad face), the 2021 vintage is available at the Sidewood Cellar Door and online. T

Founded in 2004, Sidewood Estate has become an icon in the South Australian wine scene with not only its incredible wines but its gorgeous cellar door that opened in 2020 and with the luxury day beds, outdoor fire puts and out beverage bar, it’s no wonder it’s a place on everyones bucket list.
