Lady Luck is the brand new Mt Barker cafe run by sisters Maddi and Taylah Canny who are originally from the hills.

The two sisters have been in hospitality for a long time, and always had intentions to run their own place.

“We’ve both worked in hospo for ten plus years and we thought if we are going to keep doing it, we’d love to do it for ourselves.”

They seriously started looking for places about a year ago and eventually found a cosy joint in Mt Barker that has become Lady Lucky.

At the moment all their cakes in the cabinet are handmade but due to popularity, the sisters are looking to get some from suppliers as well.

“I’ve worked down in the city and I grew up in the hills and we came back to here and found that people would leave the hills to find what they want in the city so we wanted to keep them in the hills.”

Some of the menu items include avocado on toast with turmeric pickles and leek and chive dumplings with ginger soy tomato sauce, plus a take on Shakshuka the sisters call ‘Green Shakshuka.’

In a Facebook post on their page, the two expressed how grateful they were for a crazy opening week.

“The last week has exceeded our expectations in every way possible. from the support of the community, to how big the bags have got under our eyes, we’re so full of gratitude for all the love and will continue to give our best,” read the post.

Lady Luck is located 16 Walker Street, Mt Baker.
