Bombay Bicycle Club in Ovingham is undergoing an intense transformation, moving away from it’s iconic vintage bar crowded with palm trees and bikes hanging from the ceiling. Stage one of the works – the Raja Sports Bar – swung open it’s doors over the weekend, just in time for the AFL Grand Final.
The newly refurbished sports bar boasts plush seating, multiple large screens, and an electric atmosphere to elevate the game day experience. Enjoy an Indian curry, Aussie pub classic or something from the grill along with a selection of refreshing drinks, all while cheering on your favourite team. Make sure to pop by on a Monday night for Curry night with two sittings, bookings are essential.

Whether you are a die-hard sports fan or simply enjoy the camaraderie, this revamped space is set to become the ultimate game-day destination. Keen sports fans can request the channel to be changed to watch their favourite televised game on the big screens or enjoy the wide-array of sports that play throughout the day, including motorsport, AFLW and NRL.

The new space features dark grey walls, a collection of decorative books, stonework walls, fireplaces, new dining tables and bar chairs as well as pool tables.

The Bombay Bicycle Club took over the former Ovingham Hotel which was established in 1880 and is heritage listed. The establishment of the Ovingham Hotel began with a rocky start, but by the end of 1880 the publican’s license had been granted, making it one of the oldest pubs still serving in Adelaide.
Keeping the next phase of the renovations close to their chest, if the new sports bar is anything to go by, it is due to cause waves with locals and regulars who are saying goodbye to the unique atmosphere.
In July the pub held a massive garage sale, clearing all it’s legendary large greenery, old wooden fixtures and British Raj Indian inspired tables and chairs, hinting to followers that a change was in the works.

It’s not yet clear what the future holds for the drive thru bottleshop underneath the pub and Kiplings Restaurant as renovations continue.

As the venue continues to transform, the doors are still open to diners and drinkers alike.
