Soccer Fans to Barrack for One Culture

Get along to support this friendly soccer tournament for young people on 20 December.

Your presence is required on Friday 20 December to cheer – only this time we’re not talking about Christmas cheer!

One Culture Football is using the “World Game” (soccer) to target young people aged 13 to 25 to create positive engagement & personal development opportunities whilst forging community connections with local sporting clubs, community leaders, youth services, council and other organisations.

One Culture Football aims to connect and engage young people from diverse cultures and backgrounds through soccer. These programs help young people live healthier lifestyles, increase wellbeing from physical activity, reduce antisocial behaviour in the community, and develop life skills such as team respect, team building and self-confidence.

There are many ways you can help, from volunteering your time to donating unwanted sporting equipment but, most importantly, you can help these young people feel like they belong by going along to cheer on the game.

At least 18 teams are expected to participate in a tournament on Friday 20 December, with each team playing five 12- minute games in the Group Stage. The top two qualifying teams from each Group will play the semi-finals, with the finals happening later in the afternoon.

Comprising young people who are new arrivals to Australia, or from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds, the day will also introduce young refugees to information about health issues and organisations directly relevant to young people. With speakers and stallholders from a range of South Australian health providers, the event will build on the success of a recent Health Expo, helping to ensure young refugees have access to information that addresses their unique needs.

The Australian Refugee Association has partnered with One Culture Football to hold the day-long soccer tournament. The three courts are set (two for boys, one for girls). Now all they need are the fans to cheer them along.
