Bowerbird Design Market, arguably Australia’s premier biannual art and design event is back for its eighth year and kicks off again for three days from Friday, May 5 to Sunday, May 7 at the Adelaide Showground.
The Bowerbird markets are an opportunity to seek through over 160-curated stalls from Australia’s best independent designers and makers. These stalls range from fashion, furniture, homewares, food and drink, jewellery and stationary.
The looming weather is a reminder that winter isn’t too far away, which means it’s time to start planning those winter outfits.
With Mother’s Day around the corner, and the cold weather already here, here’s a sneak peek at what you can expect from winter fashion at Bowerbird this May.
Cold System is a multi-disciplinary clothing label that explores film, photography and music. All garments are handmade and carefully constructed to give the wearer the highest possible level of comfort and aesthetic appeal, coupled with true peace of mind that only ethically sourced materials, sustainable production methods and socially responsible working conditions can create.
Read&Bell are known for their designs of beautiful block printed cotton clothing. For winter they have created a small range of Australian Merino wool ponchos and wraps that can be layered with their cotton range of shirts and dresses. At Bowerbird Read&Bell will bring block printed cotton shirts, dresses, scarves and Australian Merino Wool ponchos, wraps and scarves.
Captain Robbo’s Adventure Pants are well known for their comfort, durability and original style. They are best worn with a pinch of irreverence to fashion ‘rules’, and a splash of self-empowerment. Now nearly 5 years down the track, women of many generations and the occasional adventurous man all enjoy Captain Robbo’s comfortable fancy pants AKA leggings. With a strong focus on natural fibres, the spandex is required for every pair so that they stretch and continue to do so, using a 10%/90% mix to cotton or merino for all leggings.
Melbourne based Wendy Voon Knits has a focus on craftsmanship, versatility and timelessness, combining contemporary design with elegant forms, sensuous textures and the finest yarns. Utilising the finest natural yarns, each piece is designed to be worn and loved for many years. Ranging from cardigans, jumpers, scarfs and vests, Wendy Voon has you covered.
Sylvy Earl is a formally trained milliner with an understated style and a thoughtful eye for detail. Every hat and headpiece is carefully designed and made by hand in Adelaide, South Australia.
