One of Adelaide’s favourite street parties – the Unley Gourmet Gala gets underway at 4.00pm on King William Road Hyde Park this Wednesday, January 23.

With live music, cooking demonstrations, fashion parades, a Kid’s zone, cycling races and activities, this must go to event on the Tour Down Under calendar certainly does have something to please everyone.

Some King William Road favourites like Kibbi’s Cafe,  Parisi’s and The Pot  will be offering seated dining on the road and indoors,  while others, like Thailand Thai, Giwa Korean and Saffron Sky Café will be among the huge variety of food and drink stalls offering take aways – everything from burgers to curries. Stroll the road, make your selection, then chill in front of one of the three entertainment stages.

Children’s’ activities  include performances by Giggly Kids and Da Klinic Hip Hop Break Dancers, while cooking afficianados will want to make sure they’re in front of the Opey Avenue Stage from 6.15 pm for cooking demonstrations by Simon Bryant and Toby Puttock.

The fashion parades are always a crowd favourite and will take place at 7pm., 8pm and 9pm. Liza Emanuele, Wild Child Stylelab, Seven Men and Denim and Cloth will be among the King William Road boutiques on show.

And it is a celebration of cycling after all, and the Unley Criterium will happen at the southern end of the Road, with some of SA’s elite cyclists competing from 3.30pm. The less elite might like to dress their bike to win a prize, and the first 200 riders to check in at one of the gates will receive a “Smoothie” voucher. Mike Tomalaris will interview cyclists and there’ll be free bicycle maintenance demonstrations on the hour from 5pm at the Bloomsbury Street Cycling Stage.

When the Gourmet Gala wraps ups, The TDU moves in to get ready for the start of Stage 3 on King William Road at 11am on Thursday. Your chance to rub shoulders (or wheels) with the stars of the cycling world. Lycra not compulsory for spectators!

Hop on your bikes Adelaide and head to King William Road Hyde Park this Wednesday night for the Unley Gourmet Gala, and Thursday morning for the start of Stage 3 of the Tour Down Under.
