Limelight magazine’s 2015 Australian Artist of the Year soprano Greta Bradman will be performing a national tour across April and May, with the first concert in Wagga Wagga on 21 April.
On the back of her 2015 award-winning, chart-topping debut Decca album My Hero, Bradman expressed her keenness to tour her beloved country, performing to both regional and capital city audiences.
“I’m so excited to be performing these concerts around Australia which celebrate some truly beautiful songs and arias,” says Bradman, “and which pay tribute to some of my musical heroes.”
Bradman, who counts cooking, gardening, running, charity work, writing and being a mum and wife among her non-musical pursuits, has a background in psychology – a field she remains deeply passionate about and engaged with. In particular, she is fascinated with the burgeoning field of positive psychology and how practices such as mindfulness can improve performance and help manage issues of anxiety and depression, including within the areas of performance anxiety and performance optimisation.
She is also a strong advocate for music education from a young age and of young people having the opportunity to make music in a social setting, especially choral singing. She believes that “singing in a choir together, one’s demographic doesn’t factor in. Choral singing has been shown to bring people together, break down social barriers and boost a sense of community and community spirit”. Bradman is also a keen believer that creativity and play are important ingredients in innovation and that as such, maintaining a connection with the arts across metropolitan and rural Australia is crucial not only for the arts but for a range of other industries including technology and education.
Due to the national interest in this tour, Bradman has added an extra concert to her schedule, performing in Mt. Gambier in South Australia on Saturday 14 May.
Bradman will be accompanied throughout this national tour by acclaimed pianist/organist Rhys Boak.
The 18-concert tour has a special focus on regional centres, such as Hamilton, Goulburn, Cootamundra and Bowral.
Following her meteoric 2015 – which saw her named Austrailan Artist of the Year by Limelight magazine – Bradman considers this national tour a chance to express her thanks to those Australians who have supported her journey as a professional soprano.
“I want to perform in regional Australia as well as capital cities because I adore the vastness of this great continent and its people! I believe it’s imperative to include Australia’s rural community – the country’s life blood – in one’s journey as an artist, and in doing so to make sure there are opportunities for people living here to experience live performances of classical music.”
Bradman’s My Hero, the soprano’s debut album on the Decca label, was released on 7 August 2015 and went on to become the best-selling classical debut recording in Australia in 2015.
