The highly anticipated 2024 Hostplus SANFL Women’s League Grand Final will unfold this Saturday with South Adelaide set to face Norwood at The Parade, kicking off at 4:05pm. This weekend’s match will determine whether South Adelaide can secure their third league title, or if Norwood will capture their second, having first triumphed in the inaugural SANFLW Grand Final in 2017.

The Minor Premier, South Adelaide, have an impressive lineup featuring five players who made it into The Advertiser 2024 Team of the Year. These include Esther Schirmer, Soriah Moon, vice-captain Jordann Hickey, joint leading goal kicker Emily Brockhurst, and the 2024 SANFLW best and fairest, Nikki Nield. Under the guidance of Rick Watts, their 2019 premiership coach, the Panthers are in formidable shape. Watts, who now holds the SANFLW record for the most team wins, has also been named the coach of The Advertiser 2024 SANFLW Team of the Year.

On the other side, Norwood, aiming to become the first SANFLW team to clinch the premiership from outside the top two, showcases strong competitors like Jade Halpenny and Tahlita Buethke. The Redlegs’ utility player, Kiana Lee, has been particularly outstanding, earning the Coles Value Player Award in both finals matches this season.

Norwood has proven their mastery against South Adelaide this year, having bested the Panthers in both their encounters. They secured a 20-point victory in Round 2, and a 25-point win in Round 8. However, the teams’ performance in this critical matchup remains highly anticipated.

Adding to the grandeur of the Grand Final, SANFL Executive General Manager Football Matt Duldig shared his excitement about the event. He said, “With over 11,000 female participants in SA across community football and Auskick, the Hostplus SANFLW Grand Final is a great opportunity to celebrate and showcase women’s and girls’ footy in this State.”

The event will also be broadcast live across South Australia on Channel 7 and streamed on 7plus as well as the SANFL Now live stream, allowing fans to tune in from anywhere. Duldig also highlighted the importance of the broadcast, noting, “This is a fantastic opportunity to maximise exposure for our women’s State League and is a great recognition of the strength and reputation of the competition.”

Before the main event, the stage is set to be warmed up by all-girls AFL Auskick and Little League games. The celebrations continue during the halftime break with Coles Mini League games.

The Grand Final site will be buzzing with festival activities suitable for families. The SANFL Super Match activations by The Advertiser include a family zone with mini-golf, giant games, inflatable goals, McDonald’s giveaways, and Hostplus celebration goal cards. The AAMI Lucky Zone will also offer a relaxed spectator experience with deck chairs, and the promise of a $100 food and beverage voucher for lucky winners.

In-game entertainment such as Macca’s Chip for Cash and AAMI Kick for Cash will also give fans a chance to win during the quarter and halftime breaks.
