South Aussie Cheese Queen Heads To England To Judge Prestigious Awards

Things are going to get a little cheesy…

Renowned South Australian Artisan Cheesemaker and Glam Adelaide’s resident go to for ‘all things cheese’ expert, Kris Lloyd is heading over to the World Cheese Awards in Birmingham as the only Australian judge in this year’s competition.

Kris, the owner of Kris Lloyd Artisan Cheese and Woodside Cheese Wrights (our fave) is the only Australian representative this year and the only South Australian judge to ever be involved in this prestigious event. This year there are 2727 cheeses entered into the awards and 245 confirmed judges from over 30 Countries around the world.

“Last year was the first year I judged in the awards and I absolutely thoroughly enjoyed it, the process is by far the fairest and most transparent that I have been involved in,” said Kris Lloyd.

“ I went on to be one of 16 judges on the International Super Jury to decide the Champion of the World Cheese awards and I chose the runner up cheese which was a thrill,” said Kris.

“The World Cheese Awards illustrates the enormity of the world’s cheese industry and entering product is possibly one of the true ways of benchmarking with the rest of the world,” continued Kris.

“Given the number of countries and cheeses the competition attracts let alone the sophisticated and diverse range of palates of the judges from over 30 countries around the world, it is truly a global experience,” said Kris.

“I think it is vitally important that we have Australian representation at competitions of this calibre and on the international stage. I will also be attending the awards as South Australia’s Premium Food and Wine Ambassador,” concluded Kris Lloyd.

The World Cheese Awards are part of the BBC’s Good Food Winter NEC, Birmingham with judging taking place later this week on Thursday 26 November.
