After the incredible transformation of the Coonalpyn Silos by artist Guido van Helten, we have been breathlessly awaiting the news of more silo art. And it hasn’t taken long to happen thanks to the Ignite Kimba Arts Program.
The Viterra silos at Kimba on the Eyre Peninsula are being transformed with an amazing mural by Melbourne large-scale artist Cam Scale.
As a fully operational grain receival site, a lot of work goes on behind the scenes to allow these projects to commence safely, and the project has taken a little under a year from concept to completion.
All of this would not have been possible without the support of Glencore & Viterra, who were there from the beginning, when they were approached with the idea in September 2016. Their foresight in agreeing to the project by seeing the benefit it would bring to the small community of Kimba, and their ongoing assistance throughout the year in bringing it to fruition was integral to its success.
It’s just brilliant to see this part of the world get noticed (for more than just the rivalry between the Cleve and Kimba footy teams!). This part of South Australia is pretty bloody awesome.
