South Australia records highest ever daily COVID case tally

SA has recorded its highest COVID numbers.

South Australia has recorded its highest COVID numbers to date on Wednesday, April 6, 2022.

There have been 5,784 new cases of COVID-19 reported in South Australia today.

There is currently 35,034 active cases in South Australia.

SA Health confirmed a woman in her 90s and a man in his 80s, who tested positive for COVID-19, have passed away.

There are 208 people with COVID-19 in hospital, including 12 people in ICU, one of those ventilated.

Of those hospitalised, 143 people are fully vaccinated, 54 people are either unvaccinated or partially
vaccinated, and 11 have an unknown vaccination status.

Due to a reconfiguration of the data, the total number of cases has been readjusted.

Variants:
The latest genome sampling has found around 60% of samples taken were BA.2.

This figure will be updated as results are received, noting results are not reported daily.

COVID testing yesterday saw 16,915 people received a PCR test in South Australia, which is a 31.7% increase on the previous 24 hours.

Of the test results returned yesterday, 3,649 PCR tests were positive, while 2,135 positive Rapid Antigen Test results were reported.

Vaccination update:
Currently 95.2% of eligible South Australians aged 12+ have received their first dose of the vaccine and 93.1% have received their second dose.

Boosters have been administered to 71% of eligible South Australians and 63.6% of South Australians aged 16+.
