South Australia to shine at Indo Pacific 2025 with cutting-edge defence and tech showcase

South Australia is leading the way in global defence innovation at the Indo Pacific Expo, showcasing advanced capabilities in nuclear submarines and cyber security.

This week, Sydney’s International Convention Centre will become a global focal point for the defence industry as it hosts the Indo Pacific International Maritime Exposition from November 4th to 6th. South Australia is set to make a significant impact at this event, presenting an array of its defence capabilities.

Over 65 South Australian defence entities will gather under the banner of Defence SA. They will demonstrate their extensive expertise in a variety of fields including advanced manufacturing, autonomous systems, cyber security, and more. This collective showcase hopes to highlight the vast range of skills and innovative solutions that South Australia brings to the international table.

Adding to the state’s offerings, leading academic institutions and the Defence Innovation Partnership will share ongoing research and development activities. This inclusion is part of the integrated approach that the state adopts, merging academic research with commercial applications in defence.

Premier Peter Malinauskas shared, “International trade shows like Indo Pacific provide a vital platform to connect with defence partners and strengthen existing relationships, often leading to new supply chain opportunities and access to global markets.”

The exposition is all about dialogue and exchange, featuring a schedule of conferences and symposiums. Topics cover an impressive spectrum, including nuclear technology, shipbuilding, and uncrewed systems, attracting over 25,000 attendees including senior military, government decision-makers, and industry leaders from around the globe.

Minister for Trade and Investment and Minister for Industry, Innovation and Science, Joe Szakacs said, “AUKUS is providing us with a once-in-a-generation opportunity to transform our state’s economy, and we need to ensure that as a government we are doing everything we can to leverage it.

“That’s why I’ll be standing alongside South Australian companies at Indo Pacific this week, seeking to deliver strong outcomes for our industries, our workforce, and for the future of our state.”

Assistant Minister for Artificial Intelligence (AI), Digital Economy, Defence and Space Industries, Michael Brown added, “South Australian defence companies are not only contributing next-generation solutions for Australia and our allies, but also reinforcing our reputation as a centre of excellence in defence and hi-tech industries.”

Indo Pacific offers a vital stage for South Australian companies to not only present their technological and manufacturing prowess but also to connect with global defence networks. It positions the region as a key player capable of contributing high-level solutions to Australia and its allies, reinforcing its status as a hub for defence and high-technology industries.

The participation of South Australian companies at such a high-profile event is a clear indicator of the state’s readiness to engage in and significantly contribute to future-proofing global defence capabilities, harnessing opportunities for economic growth and reinforcing international partnerships.
