South Australia unites to launch ‘Breakfast Juice’ wine, raising $14,000 for child hunger initiative

South Aussies came together to craft the Breakfast Juice Grenache, raising $14,000 for KickStart for Kids and significantly impacting local efforts against child hunger.

Last Friday, the 2025 KickStart for Kids No Breakfast, Breakfast was held at the Hilton Adelaide, with an extra special Grenache named Breakfast Juice making its debut. The wine, crafted entirely with donated elements from fruit to bottling, played a crucial role in the fundraising efforts, generating $14,000 through sales.

Breakfast Juice is a result of community collaboration, embodying the collective spirit of South Australians. The project saw contributions from local businesses, winemakers, designers, and many volunteers, all united by the cause of fighting child hunger. Described by KickStart for Kids founder, Ian Steel OAM, this initiative showcases the power of community effort. “We are lucky to be part of a community that truly shows up for children. The support we received and the passion from everyone involved has been amazing.”

The wine itself, a 2025 Blewitt Springs Grenache crafted by McLaren Vintners’ winemaker Andrea Maxwell, features a sophisticated profile with lifted red fruit aromas and a velvety palate. Andrea shared, “I felt so grateful to be involved. Growing up in South Africa, I saw how deeply hunger impacts children, families, and entire communities. I’m honoured to help children start their day nourished and with the chance to thrive.”

The packaging and bottling of the Juice were taken care of by Vinpac International, under the management of Merridie McLaren, who said, “Every child deserves the energy to learn, grow and thrive. Supporting this project aligns with our responsibility to invest in future generations and help kids who need it most.”

Amanda Eve, an Adelaide brand strategist and creative, was responsible for the bottle design and branding. Her work effectively melded the vibrant and fun visual identity of KickStart for Kids with meaningful elements that aligned with the project’s goals.

Currently, KickStart for Kids is a critical non-profit organisation, providing meals and support to disadvantaged school children. The group serves approximately 60,000 breakfasts weekly across 360 schools, and also manages other initiatives like Camp KickStart and a campaign against period poverty.

Purchasing a pack of six bottles of Breakfast Juice for $100 can provide nourishment for thirty-six students for a day, making a significant and direct impact on child welfare through diet.
