South Australian beach takes out second place in World’s Best Beaches list

The compilation of the list involves a rigorous evaluation process. Scores from social media and editorial opinions, along with special awards and unique beach features and settings, play integral roles in the final rankings.

EnjoyTravel.com, a global travel authority, has released its much-anticipated annual list of the 50 best beaches for 2023, placing Stokes Bay on Kangaroo Island at an impressive second. This pristine location was celebrated for its scenic rock pools, hidden rock tunnel entrance, and stunning turquoise waters.

The listing not only highlights the beauty of Stokes Bay but also casts a spotlight on South Australia as a top destination for beach lovers worldwide. This recognition follows Stokes Bay’s designation as Australia’s Best Beach for 2023, further reinforcing its allure and unique natural features.

According to details from EnjoyTravel.com’s website, the compilation of the list involves a rigorous evaluation process. Scores from social media and editorial opinions, along with special awards and unique beach features and settings, play integral roles in the final rankings. The goal is not only to feature globally renowned beaches but also those with unique aspects, whether they are known for their wildlife, scenic walks, or vibrant atmospheres.

When discussing last year’s accolade, Craig Wickham, Managing Director of Exceptional Kangaroo Island, expressed his delight over the international recognition. “It’s a privilege to share this cherished local spot with the world,” Wickham stated. He emphasised the community’s ongoing commitment to preserving the natural beauty of Stokes Bay while making it accessible to tourists.

Stokes Bay, accessible by a sealed road and featuring good visitor facilities, offers a contrast to those arriving for the first time. New visitors are often surprised by its rocky and seaweed-strewn shoreline, which leads to a stunning sandy beach unveiled through an adventurous limestone tunnel.

Besides its physical beauty, Stokes Bay is an ecological haven. Its protected rock pool is a sanctuary for marine life, ideal for young families and budding snorkellers. The local wildlife, including the hooded plovers and white-bellied sea-eagles, adds to the beach’s charm, making it a haven for nature enthusiasts.

The recognition of Stokes Bay comes following a visit by Australia’s beach ambassador, Brad Farmer AM, who praised the beach for its distinctive Australian character and declared it a “new national treasure.”

The listing of Stokes Bay at the number two spot in the world’s best beaches is expected to boost tourism in South Australia, drawing global attention to its coastal beauty and vibrant community life. For locals and visitors alike, Stokes April Bay represents not just a beach but a destination rich in natural wonder and community spirit.

The number one beach in the world was named as Piha Beach – New Zealand.
