The State Government is contributing to the expansion of car clubs across South Australia through the commencement of the second round of the South Australian Car Club Program. This initiative will distribute part of a $2 million fund, spread over four years, to support the development of club facilities, the acquisition of vital equipment, and the execution of community events loved by many. This marks the first grant initiative specifically aimed at aiding car and motorcycle clubs within the state. A total of $500,000 will be allocated to 59 clubs in this round.
Included in the successful recipients from this second round is the Gawler Veteran Vintage and Classic Vehicles Club, which has been granted $100,000. This substantial amount will go towards the construction of a new clubroom. The planned facility includes a variety of features such as a meeting room, library, kitchenette, workshop, storage areas, a BBQ space, and car parking.
The club was considered a strong candidate by the assessment panel due to its effective fundraising efforts, which covered more than 70% of the project’s total cost. It should be noted that this is the first instance the club has received funding from this program.
Another beneficiary, the Adelaide Car Club, will focus the funds on enhancing youth driver training programmes. This initiative seeks to sharpen the driving skills of the younger demographic and to encourage their participation in motorsport and other club activities.
Further funding supports safety with the Tarmac Junior Development Program Association of SA set to procure new safety equipment. They plan to purchase safety cones, high-visibility vests, tyre pressure gauges, and tool kits.
Celebratory events are also a part of the agenda. The Sporting Car Club of SA is preparing to host a commemorative event for the 90th anniversary of the Old Crocks Run, which stretches from Victoria Park to Wigley Reserve in Glenelg. This will coincide with a free family fun day scheduled for May 5th.
Additionally, the Mitsubishi 4WD Club SA is launching an event tailored towards female members. The Female Friendly Four-Wheel Drive Fun Day aims to nurture confidence and enhance driving skills among women. This event will feature training sessions led by a qualified instructor, scheduled twice annually.
Another highlight in the car club calendar is the 20th birthday celebration of the Australian Muscle Car Club of SA. This event will take enthusiasts on a memorable journey to Birdwood, culminating at the National Motor Museum.
South Australia is home to more than 200 recognised motoring clubs, catering to the interests of over 45,000 vehicle owners registered under various schemes. These schemes include historic cars, individually constructed vehicles, left-hand drive, and street rods.
The next opportunity for clubs to benefit from this initiative will be in the coming financial year, when round three of the SA Car Club Program opens for applications. This continuation of funding will further sustain the vibrant motoring culture in South Australia, providing both social and economic benefits to club members and the wider community.
