Clare Valley

South Australian cellar door recognised at prestigious international design awards

SA cellar door has been recognised on the global stage, winning twice at the international Design Awards.

Taylors Wines in Clare Valley has been recognised on the global stage, taking home two major awards at the 5th edition of LIV Hospitality Design Awards.

The cellar door was named the Destination Winner in Interior Design for Australia Pacific and also won in the Interior Design Brand New category – an impressive feat against a record-breaking 550 submissions across 58 countries.

“We are so proud of our Taylors Wines cellar door here in the heart of the Clare Valley, and to be recognised globally for its design and craftsmanship is a real testament to the hard work of the entire team,” says third-generation Winemaker and Managing Director Mitchell Taylor.

Led by an all-South Australian team, the design was brought to life by Adelaide-based architect Kristina Soggee of Livingstone Studio and designer Georgie Shepherd of Georgie Shepherd Interior Design with contributions from interior designers Emmeline Barwick and Lauren Main.

The project took from the Clare Valley surrounds, using rustic, natural materials like dark timber and metal detailing with floor-to-ceiling glass features and limestone. The entryway features Taylors’ iconic seahorse emblem, a nod to the fossilised seahorses discovered in the vineyard’s inception, and limestone that carries throughout.

“We wanted to develop a space that was elegant but with an instant warming feel for each and every person who walks through the doors,” says Mitchell.

Moving from its previous location in the main winery building, the new space spans across five areas. Guests can cosy up by the bronze-green tiled fireplace in the main dining room or immerse themselves in the rolling Clare Valley vineyards under the Vergola roof outside in comfort, no matter the weather.

“It’s a space where you can just relax, eat pizza, drink wine, and enjoy the surrounding vineyards with no hurry,” says Mitchell.

A Private Collectors Club member’s room also offers guests panoramic views of the vineyards for groups of up to 18.

This success is one of many for Taylor’s this week. Their $22 bottle of Sauvignon Blanc was awarded the Best of Show Australia White trophy at the 36th annual Mundus Vini Grand International Wine Awards held in Germany – a true testament to the timeless quality of the brand and an achievement Taylor didn’t expect.

“We’re delighted and very surprised,” adds Mitchell.

“It’s been tough times for the wine industry so it’s a terrific tribute to the whole team and more reason for people to come up and visit us.”

With continued excellence across ambience and wine, there is no better time to explore the beautiful Clare Valley and add Taylors to your next visit.

The official ceremony for the LIV Hospitality Design Awards will be held in Shanghai in April.
