South Australian communities can apply for new $20,000 road safety grants

South Australian community organisations can now secure up to $20,000 in grants to strengthen local road safety initiatives.

South Australian community organisations now have the opportunity to secure funding for road safety initiatives through a new grants program launched by the State Government. The THINK! Road Safety Community Grants Program offers up to $20,000 to support projects aimed at enhancing road safety awareness and education.

Blair Boyer, Minister for Police, shared, “The impact of road trauma on those involved, their family and friends, as well as emergency workers, can affect people for the rest of their lives.

“Local communities understand local road safety issues and that’s why we have created the THINK! Road Safety Community Grants Program – to better support and engage with grassroots organisations and community clubs.

“I encourage all eligible organisations to apply for this new grant program and I’m excited to see a range of initiatives that can embedded in the community to promote road safety.”

Organisations eligible for this funding include local councils, charities, sports clubs, and educational institutions. The funding can be used for a variety of purposes such as developing educational programmes, conducting awareness campaigns, or hosting safety events.

Introduced as part of the THINK! Road Safety Partnerships Program, these community grants build on established efforts in collaboration with high-profile partners like Adelaide and Port Adelaide Football Clubs, Adelaide 36ers, and the RAA. These collaborations underline the broad-based approach the government is taking to reduce road casualties.

This initiative aligns with the goals of South Australia’s Road Safety Action Plan 2025-2027, which includes measures like applying time-based speed limits near schools on major roads and boosting public understanding of road safety rules. The Action Plan aims for a 50 per cent reduction in road deaths and a 30 per cent reduction in serious injuries by 2031.

The ongoing efforts to improve road safety are vital in preventing further trauma and building safer communities across South Australia. Interested organisations can find more information and submit their applications for the THINK! Road Safety Community Grants Program by visiting the road safety portal provided by the government.
