South Australian Duo Electric Fields to Represent Australia at Eurovision 2024

South Australian multi-award winning duo Electric Fields will represent Australia at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö, Sweden this May.

South Australian musical sensation Electric Fields is set to represent Australia at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, scheduled to take place in Malmö, Sweden, in May 2024. The multi-award-winning duo, comprising Zaachariaha Fielding and Michael Ross, has captivated audiences with their dynamic performances and will be the first act from South Australia to grace the Eurovision stage.

Originating from Mimili in the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Lands (APY) of South Australia, Electric Fields combines contemporary music with their Indigenous cultural heritage, creating an electrifying and meaningful performance style. Their entry for the contest, “One Milkali,” translates to “One Blood” in English, symbolizing a vision of unity and shared humanity across the globe.

This year’s participation is backed by the Malinauskas Government, which has shown support for the arts and live music sector within the state. The government’s recent investment of nearly $1 million into the Music Development Office aims to enhance live music in South Australia, offering grants to support employment for musicians and production staff, and to promote original music through programs like See it LIVE.

Electric Fields’ journey to Eurovision is a testament to their remarkable talent and the broad appeal of their music. Having performed across Australia, Asia, New Zealand, the United States, the UK, and Europe, they are no strangers to the international music scene. Their participation in SBS’ 2019 national selection show, Eurovision – Australia Decides (E-AD), where they finished as runners-up, already showcased their capability to captivate a wide audience.

Andrea Michaels, the Minister for Arts, expressed her enthusiasm for Electric Fields’ participation in the Eurovision Song Contest. “It’s wonderful to see Electric Fields showcase their amazing talents to so many people through this global opportunity,” Michaels stated. She emphasized the duo’s impactful performances that have long been celebrated in South Australia, expressing confidence that their participation in Eurovision will further showcase their exceptional talent on a global stage.

In response, Electric Fields expressed their gratitude towards the State Government for its unwavering support. “We would like to thank the State Government and gratefully acknowledge their ongoing support in the development of our artistry and efforts in bringing Electric Fields to the world,” they remarked.

As Eurovision 2024 approaches, with events running from May 7th to May 11th, Electric Fields is poised to not only represent Australia but to share a message of unity and cultural richness through their performance of “One Milkali.” Their participation marks a significant moment for Australian music, highlighting the diverse talent the nation has to offer on one of the world’s most prominent stages.
