South Australian Music Awards Nominees revealed

The 2021 South Australian Music Awards are celebrating the achievements of South Australian musicians, venues and industry workers.

The 2021 South Australian Music (SAM) Awards are once again celebrating the achievements of South Australian musicians, venues and industry workers across what’s been an increasingly difficult 12 months.

Public voting for the 2021 SAM Awards is now open and closes at 11:59 pm ACST on October 10.

Bridget Hustwaite, the host of ‘Good Nights’ on triple j, will host the SAM Awards on Thursday evening November 18 on the grounds of the Adelaide Gaol taking advantage of the coming warmer weather, laidback energy and celebratory vibe.

Today’s announcement sees a broad range of genres represented in the major/industry award nominees that were decided by a local judging panel.

While there’s plenty of familiar names amongst the nominees for the 2021 SAM Awards, there are plenty of first-time entrants such as triple j Unearthed High winners George Alice and Teenage Joans – highlighting the exciting time South Australian music is currently experiencing at present.

The nominees announced also host a range of winners from last year including TOWNS, Wing Defence, and Motez, along with plenty of fresh faces.

The SAM Awards People’s Choice categories showcase talent across a range of genres including country, blues and roots, soul/funk/R&B, folk, jazz and hip hop, electronic, experimental, heavy, pop, punk and rock.

The SAM’s Industry and Major awards will be decided by a panel of 15 national and local judges who represent and work across various facets of the industry and are valued members of the overarching Australian music community.

Voting is now open for the People’s Choice categories via themusic.com.au and you can view the full list of nominees here.

Organiser of the SAM awards are excited for the awards to be once again be hosted during Australian Music Month.

Music SA General Manager Kim Roberts is thrilled that the SAM Awards are able to go ahead in 2021 despite recent COVID outbreak fears in South Australia.

“Despite yet another challenging year for our industry, there’s been some incredible new music and achievements from the SA music community over the past 12 months,” she says.

“South Australian artists need your support more than ever – make sure to vote for your favourite artists!”

Tickets for the 2021 SAM Awards include food and beverages throughout the evening supplied by Bits N Bites, Paella Bar, Pirate Life Brewing and Alpha Box and Dice.
