South Australia’s internationally recognised shiraz vineyards are gaining further acclaim at the ‘Via Sensoria’ exhibition in Bordeaux, France. This high-profile event, held at the globally recognised wine museum, La Cité du Vin, will run until November.
The partnership at La Cité du Vin not only provides South Australia’s wines a platform to be exposed to thousands of attendees, but also allows for the holding of wine tastings, exhibitions and events. In addition, it opens avenues for wine literature to the museum’s archive.
Wine production is a considerable component of South Australia’s economy and is a significant tourism driver. The state serves as a major contributor to the national wine industry, generating half of bottled wine, and more than three quarters of premium grade wine for the nation. Considering recent challenges the wine industry faces, including global oversupply and changing market conditions, initiatives like this exhibition are deemed crucial.
By introducing South Australia’s wines to new and established markets worldwide, the state gets the chance to advertise itself at a global level, promoting tourism and enhancing exports.
South Australian wineries, including Kalleske, Ochota Barrels, and Patritti, have their shiraz available at the ‘Via Sensoria’ exhibition. Wines from other producers will soon join them.
‘Via Sensoria’ visitors can enjoy a fully immersive experience with each of the four pavilions representing a unique season. Shiraz tastings guided by sommeliers amidst autumnal visuals and sounds can be relished at South Australia’s Autumn pavilion, with Italian Prosecco offered by the Spring pavilion and rosé from Provence at the Summer pavilion. The Winter pavilion will showcase the sweet, white Sauternes from Bordeaux.
Clare Scriven, South Australia’s Minister for Primary Industries, signed a three-year memorandum of understanding between the South Australian Government and Bordeaux’s La Cite du Vin during her international mission in August 2023.
Several South Australian wineries including Anderson Hill, Brash Higgins, Dandelion Vineyards, among others, will soon be showing their wines in the exhibition. Besides the ‘Via Sensoria’ event, wines from Alkina Wine Estate, Patritti, and Serafino Wines will be featured in the ‘Belvedere’ tasting room at La Cité du Vin.
Clare Scriven was elated over the exposure offered by the event saying, “The relationship with Bordeaux through our membership of the prestigious Great Wine Capitals Global Network continues bearing fruit, placing our premium wine on a global stage.”
Peter Gago, Penfolds Chief Winemaker, echoed her enthusiasm stating, “A global showcase of the best of SA Shiraz – over 10,000 miles away in Bordeaux. It doesn’t come much better!”
