South Australian sports clubs receive $1.4 million funding boost to kickstart 2026 season

South Australia’s sport and recreation clubs are set to thrive in 2026 with a $1.4 million funding injection from the State Government.

The State Government has announced a $1.4 million in funding for South Australian sport and active recreation clubs as part of its ongoing commitment to enhancing community engagement and supporting club activities. The funding, delivered through the Active Club Program (ACP), will assist clubs in beginning their 2026 season with increased resources and support.

This strategic financial support will be disbursed among 558 clubs across the state, enabling them to upgrade equipment, procure new uniforms, and introduce programs that encourage increased participation and inclusion within their local communities. Clubs with memberships of 100 or more will benefit from $3,000 each, whereas smaller clubs, with member counts ranging from 20 to 99, will receive $1,500 each.

An essential aspect of the funding allocation focuses on inclusivity, particularly promoting female participation in sports. Clubs are encouraged to use the funds for launching inclusive programmes that address barriers to participation. This includes providing period products, offering flexible uniform options, and educating members on menstrual health.

The distribution of the funds around the state makes a wide-reaching impact. Half of the beneficiaries are located in regional South Australia or the greater metropolitan areas. This balanced allocation is part of the government’s commitment to supporting urban and rural communities equally.

Minister for Recreation, Sport and Racing, Rhiannon Pearce, shared, “The Active Club Program helps deliver our vision of sport, active recreation and racing throughout South Australia.

“Our aim is to provide practical support to help clubs grow, adapt and respond to the needs of their members, so more South Australians can experience the health and wellbeing benefits of being active. This investment also recognises the vital role clubs play in strengthening communities and creating inclusive, welcoming environments for people of all ages and abilities.”

As clubs across South Australia prepare for the upcoming season, this significant financial boost sets a positive tone for the future of community sports and active recreation in the region. With substantial support, these clubs are well-positioned to expand their memberships, enhance their offerings, and play an instrumental role in promoting a healthier, more active society.
